Art-Themed Birthday Party

I had so much fun planning this art-themed birthday party!

Art Themed Birthday PartyI used my daughter’s artwork and art supplies as decorations. I frequented Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and JoAnn for the items I needed. Every day on my lunch break I would go to a couple of craft stores and pick up a couple of supplies and/or decorations with those wonderful 40% off coupons. I found some great deals in clearance also. I found a 7-pk of canvases for $6.99. The party was for 16 children so I still needed two more 7-pks. Using a 25% coupon on a 40% sale, I was able to get two more packs for $20.98 so I ended up with 21 canvases for $27.97. The acrylic paint, oil pastels, card stock etc was all purchased with coupons.

Art Themed PartyThe fabric I used in the pails to simulate paint was purchased for a few dollars at JoAnn with a 25% coupon on a clearance sale. I saw the idea online but plastic table coverings were used. I liked the way it looked with soft fabric much better and it was only a couple of dollars more. I made the treat “bags” by hot-gluing a ribbon to a clear plastic cup and filling with crayons.

Art Themed Cake and Cake PopsI made the cake and cake pops/balls. The cake pops and balls were displayed in painters’ palettes.

Colorful 36 in BalloonsI purchased those massive 36″ balloons hoping to fill them with helium so I could tie them to chairs but the cost was so much I decided to just fill them with air. That ended up working out perfect because the kids had a blast playing with them!

It was such a fun party and I didn’t spend a fortune!

Pretzel Cake

I took a small break from some major spring cleaning to make this pretzel cake! I love the Take 5 candy bars so decided to make something that combined sweet with salty. This was yummy! I ground some of the pretzels and used the powder in between layers and also on top of the two tiers.

The best part, it was so easy and only cost about $3 to make!

I used the chocolate frosting recipe found here.

Ballet Party Theme

Some photos from my daughter’s ballet party. This was so fun and inexpensive to put together. Most of the décor came from “shopping the house” and I made the cake and tutu cake board. I bought the flowers on the day of her birthday and they lasted until her party (4 days later). I had a perfect little swan vase to complete the table décor but it accidently broke. This was the only little mishap. Everything else turned out perfectly, she loved it and it was inexpensive!

Budget Organization

As I was cleaning out a closet, I came across some empty, plastic storage containers I had been saving for some future upcycle project. I like clutter-free bathroom counters so all of my products are pretty organized in easy-to-access places near my vanity and off my counters. The one place that could’ve used some more organization was my makeup bin. I don’t have a lot of makeup to begin with but what I did have was all mixed together.

My hair products have been organized in a very practical way. Thankfully, my vanity has deep drawers in the middle that are perfect for storing them.

I never liked the look of the clear makeup storage sets. I always felt like they looked too cluttered, especially just sitting on my counter. So my makeup just got tossed in a canvas bin under my sink. These upcycled makeup wipe containers and whitestrip box came in handy. I just wish they were all one matching color but at least now I have separate little containers for my foundations, eye makeup, lipsticks and brushes. It never takes me long to get ready but this has really made it much more of a breeze without me having to look for stuff.

I just pull out my little boxes and when done store them away in the canvas bins I had been using. It may not be the “prettiest” method but I did not pay for any of the containers. Not only do my counters stay decluttered and easy to wipe down daily, now my makeup is organized in a practical manner too!

Garage Sailing

I am so excited that our neighborhood will be having the fall garage sale soon! I have found some great deals! From bikes to all kinds of furniture. I found a beautiful mahogany desk for the kids for $20 (even delivered to my home). My most recent find was a beautiful antique Chippendale-style sideboard buffet with skeleton keys included. I am a sucker for old, unique pieces. I have spent a pretty penny buying handmade, reclaimed furniture from  http://www.homesourcetx.com. I purchased some handmade saddle stools and a dining set made from a reclaimed barn door. I absolutely love their furniture but it can get quite expensive :). I had gone to the garage to purchase a table saw for my hubs and saw this gorgeous buffet. I was fortunate to have gone first thing in the morning and snatched it up right away. This time I am hoping to find something I can restore/paint because so far all the stuff I have found, I believe to be too pretty to paint. I definitely need some color though because I have learned that I LOVE dark wood, Virtually every piece of furniture we have is dark. Here’s the buffet I purchased for $200 and it was delivered to my home too 🙂 I’ve seen similar pieces for $1500-2000.
